  • Development of high frequency power electronics systems to improve power density, efficiency and performance.

  • The utilization of soft-switching technique in improving power factor and efficiency.

  • Analysis and design of high frequency dc-to-dc resonant converter topologies.

  • Modeling and control of PWM and soft-switching converters.

  • Development of power electronics interface systems for photovoltaic arrays and fuel cell.



CENTER HIGHLIGHTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
(1998- PRESENT)
  • Received over $13M research funding from industry and government agencies including NSF, DoE, NASA, US Navy, US Army, US Air Force, NIST, Sandia National Laboratories, Intel, Emersion, Lockheed Martin, Ford Motor Company, Freescale Semiconductor, Petra Solar, etc.

  • 55 advanced degrees awarded (22 Ph.D. and 33 M.S)

  • Over 600 technical papers, theses, and dissertations published.

  • Over 16 U.S. patents issued and licensed to industry partners.

  • Developed the highest power density (W/in3) 50W DC-DC converter in the world for the telecommunication and computer applications.

  • Developed a 200KW DC/DC converter with a record-setting power density (W/in3).

  • Invented and developed the world's first sub-mohm power MOSFET

  • Prestigious Transaction Prize Paper Awards from IEEE Power Electronics Society in 2006 and 2007 consecutively.

  • Prestigious Best Automotive Electronics Paper Award from IEEE Vehicular Technology Society in 2004.

  • Energy Challenge Award from IEEE and Department of Energy (DoE) in 2004 for the best fuel-cell based inverter engineering design.

  • International Energy Challenge Award from IEEE and Department of Energy (DoE) in 2006 for the best grid-tied inverter design.

  • Launched three start-up technology companies.

  • Hosted and organized the 38th IEEE Power Electronics Specialists Conference (PESC) in 2007.
