The Florida Power Electronics Center, (FloridaPEC) at the University of Central Florida was established in 1998 to carry on research and development activities in various areas of power electronics for various industries and renewable energy applications. The Center's mission is to develop advanced electronic power conversion technologies for efficient electric energy utilization through multidisciplinary engineering research and education in the field of power electronics. The research vision is to achieve significant improvements in power density, efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of electric energy processing systems by developing innovative topology and control techniques, power semiconductor devices, passive components, and packaging and system integration techniques.
The center currently has 5 faculty members, 3 affiliate faculty members, and 30 graduate research assistants and staff members. Research conducted at FloridaPEC has led to fourteen US patents as well as the publication of numerous research papers and presentations at international and national conferences. FloridaPEC is supported by research funding from industry and government
agencies such as Apecor,
Lockheed Martin,
Emerson,
Intel,
NASA,
NSF,
the US Department of Defense, and more.
